Convert MP4 to MP3

Extract the audio track from a video as a universal MP3. Runs on your device.

or click to choose — supports batch upload

.mp4 · processed on your device

Up to ~200 MB per file (browser-memory limit)

Works best in Chrome, Edge, or Firefox. First conversion downloads the audio engine (~32 MB, cached forever after). Safari can struggle with files larger than about 20 MB — if a Safari conversion stalls, try it in Chrome.

About MP4 and MP3

MP4 is a video container — it wraps a video stream and an audio stream together. But plenty of the time you only want the sound: the song from a music video, the talk from a recorded lecture, the conversation from a webcam interview, or a podcast someone published as video. Carrying the whole video file around just to listen is wasteful and inconvenient.

Converting MP4 to MP3 pulls the audio track out and throws the video away, leaving a small, universally playable file you can drop into any music player, podcast app, or car stereo. Our converter decodes the embedded audio and re-encodes it with libmp3lame (the reference MP3 encoder) at 192 kbps — CD-quality and a sensible default for almost any use.

Everything runs on your device via WebAssembly. The audio engine downloads once (about 32 MB), and subsequent conversions reuse the loaded engine instantly. Your video file never leaves your machine.

Frequently asked questions

Why is there a first-time delay?
We use ffmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The engine is ~32 MB and takes 5-15 seconds to download on first use. After that, it's cached by your browser and every subsequent conversion starts instantly.
Does the video get included?
No — this tool extracts the audio track only and discards the video entirely. The output is a pure MP3 with no picture, which is exactly what you want for music, lectures, or podcasts.
What quality will the MP3 be?
192 kbps, which is CD-quality and audibly transparent. Note that we can't make the audio better than what's already in the MP4 — if the video's soundtrack was low quality, the MP3 will match it, not improve it.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes. Drop several MP4 files and you'll get a ZIP of MP3s. The audio engine loads once and then processes each file in sequence.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The audio track is demuxed out of your MP4 by ffmpeg-wasm running locally. The video never leaves your device, and neither does the MP3 until you download it.
What's the maximum file size?
Around 200 MB per file, bounded by browser memory. Long videos (hours) need more memory and take longer; a typical few-minute clip converts in seconds after the initial engine load.
